Menu of today

BREAKFAST

Juice
Juice 1 lemon and add to a blender, add 1 cooked beet and 1 cm fresh ginger and blend well, add a pinch of ground cayenne pepper. Strain (optional).

Breakfast muffin
Use recipe from day 2.

Digestive tea
Boil 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp coriander seeds and 1 tsp fennel seeds in about 400ml of water. Reduces to about 300ml and strain. Add to a thermos and drink throughout the day.

LUNCH

Nettle soup
Forage about 50 grams of nettles. Put the nettles in a strainer and burn with boiled water. Chop afterwards (the nettles won’t be ‘dangerous’ after burning them with the hot water.) Peel 150 grams of white potatoes and cut them in small cubes. Chop ½ onion and 1 garlic clove. With a pestle and mortar, grind ½ tsp fenugreek seeds, ½ tsp coriander seeds and ½ tsp fennel seeds.. Heat 2 tbsp ghee or sunflower oil in a medium pot and roast the spices softly. Add the onions and garlic and cook until soft. Add 1 tsp turmeric and 1 vegetable stock. Now add the nettles and leave to cook for a while. Add the potato cubes and stir. Add about 300ml of water and 1 pinch of ground nutmeg to flavour. Leave for about 15 minutes (or until potatoes are soft). Blend and add pepper, salt and lemon juice to flavour. Top with mixed roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

DINNER

Shakti bowl
Heat 1 tsp ghee or sunflower oil on a medium heat and roast 1tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp ground fennel seed, ½ tsp turmeric, 3 cardamom pods, 2 strings of saffron and 1 cinnamon stick.. Add ½ onion (chopped finely), 1 garlic clove, 80 grams of chopped celery, 80 grams of chopped carrot and 80 grams of chopped courgette. Add a small handful of pistachio nuts and cranberries. Add 80 grams of basmati rice and 200ml of water. When the liquid is boiling, close the pan with a lid and lower heat to the lowest setting. After about 10 minutes, add 2 hands full of spinach and leave for another 5/10 minutes. Add some salt, pepper, lemon juice and fresh chopped green herbs.

DESSERT

Golden milk
Heat a small frying pan and add 1 tbsp of turmeric powder and ¼ tsp of black pepper. Leave to roast for about 2/3 minutes or until the colour starts to change. Add some ghee or coconut oil and stir well. Add about 100ml of oat or almond milk and heat (not boil!) for 3 minutes.

Ayurvedic morning ritual

When we rise, we tend to go along with the noise of the outer world - like checking your phone immediately after waking up (who doesn’t?). In Ayurveda, we use morning rituals to set an intention for the rest of the day - by starting with a moment of silence and self care.
Here are some steps for your morning ritual (this can be done before or after your Yoga practice, however your prefer):

1. When you wake, take a moment to be still. For a few minutes, take a moment to feel what kind of body you’ve woken up in. What is it that your body needs today?
2. Scrape your tongue (±7 times) to remove any build up toxins from the night.
3. Use your dry bush to stimulate the blood flow. Make circular movements from your toes up to the heart space.
4. Apply your self-massage oil. Keep your senses open! Smell the oil, feel the warmth of your skin and the touch of your hand.
5. Let the oil sit on your skin for a few minutes. Maybe take this moment to meditate (for grounding) or, if you could use upliftment, put on some nice juicy salsa music. Kriya or Pranayama breathing exercises (see videos below) are also very nice in the morning.
6. Take a warm shower, so your pores can open to soak up all the oil. Afterwards, your skin will feel soft and nourished.
